MN Food Bloggers 2011!

February 8, 2011

Tonight I had the unique opportunity to gather with the rest of the local food blogging community.  We’ll just say that I was nothing shy of overwhelmed at the discovery of how many of us there really are! It’s fantastic to know that I’m a part of a community that’s supportive of what I do and the efforts that we food bloggers take in being a part of what we love most; food. Writers, eaters, and creators all gathered tonight at the 128 Cafe in St. Paul to celebrate just that.

The event was organized by the terrific Stephanie Meyer whom you may know from FreshTart.net and Dara & Co. at Minnesota Monthly.  You really couldn’t ask for a better hostess. Exuding nothing but kindness and warmth, Stephanie clearly made a room full of strangers feel like they were at home and amongst friends. The feeling was exemplified by the quaint ambiance of the 128 Cafe. It was just a nice and comfortable place to be on a frigid February evening and the food… the food was great.  Although I’m in the midst of my great vegetarian experiment, I could clearly see the faces of all the serious food lovers around me, and the face of a food lover experiencing a true “foodie” moment does not lie. That’s also not to say that there wasn’t any veg friendly food available! I had the most excellent cheese stuffed peppers crusted in crushed almonds.  They were outrageously good!  The samosas were also a home run! Since this was a food blogger event, I opted to take the night off (well, not really as I’m sitting here writting this) and just enjoy the company of my fellow food folk.  I brought no camera and I tweeted no tweets.  I just let the event role on au natural.  I wouldn’t have had it any other way!

Among those in attendance were Twin Cities Food Finds Dave Ostlund, The Perennial Plate’s Daniel Klien, The stunning food photographer and writer of Fork, Knife, Spoon Kate Sommers, and Kate in the Kitchens very own Kate!  There were so many folks there that I’d love to be able to name them all, but running down my Google Reader list of local MN food writers would take me the better part of… well, we’ll just say a while. To those of you un-named here that I had the absolute pleasure of meeting this evening, know that I greatly look forward to doing this again. Those of you I didn’t get a chance to meet, it’s unfortunate, but hopefully another opportunity will present itself soon.  I’d also like to the fine folks over at the 128 Cafe to know that once I’m back on meat, I’m coming back for the ribs!

Can I just say that I LOVE that you got this up last night – with a logo no less? It was fantastic to meet you in person, I’m thrilled that the event worked out so well. I agree – 128 Cafe did a perfect job, absolutely top-notch. It might have been cold outside, but we were all warm & cozy! Thanks for coming – see you at the next!
